Land Units

Zealot

Zealot

Builds From: Gateway
Armament: Psionic Blades
Role: Assault Warrior

Main combat unit, known from the original Starcraft. This dedicated warrior has formidable physique further enhanced by cybernetic implants. Yet a zealot is far more than the technology they bear. Each individual is trained for decades in hand-to-hand combat, tactics, pain tolerance and martial discipline. Zealots are taught to hate their enemies with a white hot passion and to hunt them down without mercy.

They’re armed with two Psionic Blades and “Charge” ability, whitch allows him to quickly reach distant opponents (It’s confirmed that “Charge” will be an upgrade).

Immortal

Immortal

Builds From: Gateway
Armament: Twin Phase Disruptors
Role: Ranged Assault Support

Heavy armed and armored Immortal is equipped with a special type of shield activated only when is under heavy fire. This ability makes Immortal deadly against fortified positions (Siege Tanks etc.), but is also his primary disadvantage - a group of marines with small guns can be very dangerous for this mighty warrior.

Stalker

Stalker

Builds From: Gateway
Armament: Chronal Web
Role: High Mobility Scout / Ambusher

War machine built by Dark Templars is (thanks to his quickness and “Blink” ability) fated to scouting, hunting slow enemy units and hit-and-run assaults. “Blink” ability is used to quick transfer (teleport) within Stalker’s view range.

Colossus

Colossus

Builds From: Robotics Facility
Armament: Twin Thermal Lances
Role: Heavy Support

Colossus is a protoss robot design dating back to the bloody conflicts of the Kalath Intercession. The great height of the machine allows it to step up and down cliffs and other steep elevations with little difficulty, and gives it a dominating field of fire. In addition, this monster is armed with two heavy thermal lances with complex focusing and targeting systems whitch is extreamly effective against smaller units (like swarm of zerglings).

Dark Templar

Dark Templar

Builds From: Gateway
Armament: Modified Warp Blade
Role: Stealth Infiltrator

The Dark Templar are powerful psionic warriors whose forebears were exiled from the protoss homeworld of Aiur over a thousand years ago. Unfortunately, about this warrior we know only that he will be stealthed close-combat unit. No further informations about abilities of this unit are available yet.

Twilight Archon

Twilight Archon

Builds From: Merging Templar
Armament: Psionic Shockwave
Role: Heavy Assault

This unit known from original Starcraft game is still hidden in mystery, but it’s sure that with the halves of the protoss race reunited, an archon can now be brought into being by the merge of two high templar, or two dark templar, or even the unification of a dark templar and a high templar.

Air Units

Phase Prism

Phase Prism

Builds From: Robotics Facility
Armament: None
Role: Tactical Transport

Phase Prism is one of most strategicaly important units ever. Its primary objective is transporting Protoss units into battlefield. Second, no less significant, is generation of a mobile psionic matrix - this ability allows you to quickly restore power after destruction of a pylon or quick base establishment.

Phoenix

Phoenix

Builds From: Stargate
Armament: Twin Ion Cannons
Role: Air Superiority Fighter

Swift and deadly air unit, replacing Scouts and Corsairs from the first Starcraft. Their pilots can overload its warp field through the ship’s ion blasters. This “Overload” ability is devastating and can destroy a large number of enemies at once, but it comes at a price: in the aftermath the phoenix is left temporarily powerless and crippled. Wary foes have learned to flee a phoenix overload and return moments later to destroy the helpless craft.

Warp Ray

Warp Ray

Builds From: Stargate
Armament: Prismatic Beam
Role: Long-range Bombardment

A warp ray is a ship virtually built around a single gigantic power source: the prismatic core. This device seethes with energy drawn from two realms: the Void, which is truly understood only by the dark templar, and the psionic matrix, which underpins the technologies of the Aiur protoss. In combination these two energies form a self-sustaining reaction of terrifying potential. Longer the Warp Ray shoots on a target, the stronger beam generates - so this unit is extremly effective against large targets, such as battlecruiser etc, in contrary it’s almost defenceless against group of smaller units.

Carrier

Carrier

Builds From: Stargate
Armament: Interceptors
Role: Capital Ship
Protoss commanders use carrier as an operations center of the protoss fleets. The massive ship don’t have any weapons but his main strike force is hidden inside. It contains many of smaller, quick robotic units (Interceptors), which can be deadly against other units. When used in a large formation, fleet of carriers is almost invincible.

Mothership

Mothership

Builds From: Stargate
Armament: Disruptor Pulse
Role: Capital Ship

The strongest unit in the arsenal of this race. Its power is redeemed by extreme quantity of resources requied for its construction and by fact that you can have only one Mothership at a time. You have 3 abilities at your service: “Time bomb” creates around this unit a forcefield, whitch slows-down or stops all incoming projectiles; “Planet Cracker” is a powerful beam whitch level off all resistance in face of the Mothership; And finally a “Worm Hole” - a wonderful graphic show whitch sucks in the major part of an enemy fleet.

Mothership

Observer

Builds From: Robotics Facility
Armament: None
Role: Scout

These small drones are employed to survey vast wasteland areas or observe and record battles for study within the protoss archives. Observer is unarmed unit, but it’s a powerful detector of cloaked units, and more, it is equipped with small stealth generator, which makes it permanently invsible.

Following units Blizzard didn’t published yet, but they can be seen in gameplay movies and they are confirmed in many interviews. Their capabilities may be different in final version.

Nothing

High Templar

Protoss High Templar with powerful psionic storm has returned. In addition, he’ll be able to cast a force field stunning the enemy units or barriers. Blizzard announced, that testing revealed a couple of outstanding tactics whitch derives benefit from these abilities.

Nothing

Soul Hunter

A truly precise name for this warrior - his strenght grows with number of souls captured from dead enemy. But effectivity against small organic units is redeemed by impossibility to harm a mechanical unit.

Nothing

Reaver

You need artillery? Here it is… Even PC Gamer in its interview hadn’t possibility to see this unit in action. We can only discuss if Reaver will be the same death-machine like in first Starcraft.

Nothing

Phase Cannon

An upgrade of Photon Cannon from the first Starcraft, but mobile! This unit/structure can transform itself into a form of energy for transfer. But beware of destruction an appropriate
pylon, when Cannon is in the energy form!

Nothing

Star Relic

Two elements describe this unit - a cloak field capable of hiding entire buildings and a fusion beam, whitch slowly damages target until his destruction. And on the top of it, after destruction of Relic, it’ll detonate in large explosion.
